The Amar Chitra Katha Mahabharata is a long epic poem of 100,000 verses composed in 17th century CE by a Sanskrit poet named Vyasa. All the characters in the story are Hindus of the Puranic Age and fully human. The story begins with an all-knowing creator deity Vivasvan who creates from his body parts an endless number of worlds for gods, titans, humans and demons to live on. In each world he creates, he bestows upon it people who will represent that world's social or natural order while he takes care of his creation from above.
