The Amar Chitra Katha Mahabharata is a long epic poem of 100,000 verses composed in 17th century CE by a Sanskrit poet named Vyasa. All the characters in the story are Hindus of the Puranic Age and fully human. The story begins with an all-knowing creator deity Vivasvan who creates from his body parts an endless number of worlds for gods, titans, humans and demons to live on. In each world he creates, he bestows upon it people who will represent that world's social or natural order while he takes care of his creation from above. Gods have sons and daughters but humans have no children while giants have many descendants through their offspring with mortals. The whole story of Mahabharata is about power, lust, greed, anger and death. Mahabharata tells the life stories of great warriors who came from all across India to participate in this great war. The warrior princes fight the battle on behalf of their families and for personal glory. The Pandavas are said to be the incarnations of the five major Pandava brothers along with their Draupadi played a very central role in Mahabharata War. Since they were related to each other by blood they were related to Krishna who helped them during Mahabharata War. The book has pictures on every page with majority of pictures being converted into full-page pictures given more importance than text. The pictures are usually brief but captivating yet do not contradict the text. The book is also filled with cross-connecting themes which connects all the stories together. The stories are about Mahabharata War between Pandavas and Kauravas. The war is fought for control over India and its riches, which originally belonged to the Pandavas. The Pandavas are essentially brothers born of Yudhishthira, the eldest of the five sons of King Pandu. They are the five sons of Pandu. There are two sets of twins, one set of eight brothers born to Kunti in her husbands' later years, and the other set born after the king’s death. The latter set is referred to in the epic as 'the younger children'. All eight brothers survived into adulthood, but only four received their mother's blessing for marriage.Main characters of Mahabharata in Amar Chitra Katha are Pandavas Kauravas Drona Ajayaditya Pandavas- The main characters who are Pandava brothers. Yudhishthira Arjuna Yuyutsu Yudhishthira was the eldest of the Pandava brothers. He is shown as a wise and noble person, married to Draupadi, and leading his brothers in war against the Kauravas. He is crucial to the movement of storytelling in this book. The original story of Mahabharata is all about him. His name means 'the end of guests' because he is identified with "Brahman".
